Trip Hazards
- Remove throw rugs or use rubberized backing rugs that grip the floor.
- Create a more open environment. Remove piled up clutter such as newspapers, clothing and shoes.
- Remove stretched out extension cords.
- Wear non-slip footwear when inside.
Fire Safety
- Make sure you have operable smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Check for frayed electrical cords.
- Eliminate the use of space heaters.
Bathrooms
- Install grab bars in the shower and beside the toilet.
- Install a bench or bathing chair in the shower or tub.
- Consider replacing the tub with a walk-in shower.
Other
- Install a peep hole in the front door and do not open the door if you don’t know the person.
- Do not accept telephone offers or share any financial information or social security number.
- Consider a security system.
