Trip Hazards

• Remove throw rugs or use rubberized backing rugs that grip the floor.
• Create a more open environment. Remove piled up clutter such as newspapers, clothing and shoes.
• Remove stretched out extension cords.
• Wear non-slip footwear when inside.

Fire Safety

• Make sure you have operable smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
• Check for frayed electrical cords.
• Eliminate the use of space heaters.

Bathrooms

• Install grab bars in the shower and beside the toilet.
• Install a bench or bathing chair in the shower or tub.
• Consider replacing the tub with a walk-in shower.

Other

• Install a peep hole in the front door and do not open the door if you don’t know the person.
• Do not accept telephone offers or share any financial information or social security number.
• Consider a security system.
