Selling a home “as is” means that the owner is selling the property in its current state with no repairs. It does not relieve the seller from disclosing issues with the home. While this may sound attractive to potential sellers, there may be a downside with selling your home as is.

  • Even if the home is priced to move as is, buyers may perceive that there are serious issues with the home and make low-ball offers.
  • Some buyers avoid “as is’ homes so you may attract fewer buyers.
  • The buyer may come back after the home inspection and ask for an additional reduction in price.

There are however, some reasons for selling as is include:

  • The seller can’t afford to make repairs or is going through a life changing issue (divorce, death, or health).
  • The seller can’t handle the stress involved in selling their home.
  • The seller is in financial distress and needs to sell quickly.

According to MYMOVE, the average costs associated with home improvements to get your home ready to sell is $6,570. This may include interior and exterior painting, home staging, lawn service, pressure washing, deep cleaning, and repairs.

Move-in ready homes typically sell faster and for more money. However, a real estate agent who knows the market can give you a better idea of what you could realistically get for your home “as is” versus investing money for repairs. Feel free to contact one of our agents to discuss your options for selling your home.
